About the project
At Red Ironworks, we craft resilient steel solutions that fortify essential public infrastructure. Our involvement in the transformative Brooklyn Jail Project exemplifies our commitment to secure, high-performance fabrication for urban renewal initiatives.
This state-of-the-art facility at 275 Atlantic Avenue replaces the aging Brooklyn Detention Center, advancing New York City's bold plan to phase out Rikers Island with modern, humane borough-based jails. Contracted by Banker Steel in partnership with general contractor Tutor Perini for the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC), we are fabricating and installing critical miscellaneous steel scopes to ensure structural integrity and safety across the complex.
Our comprehensive delivery includes: 10 egress stairs with 2,000 risers for seamless emergency access; 100 tons of grating featuring perimeter galvanized handrails and grating stairs for durable, corrosion-resistant walkways; and 300 tons of comeback steel at cellblock levels, encompassing 70 staircases with 1,260 risers to support secure vertical circulation.
Through precise in-house fabrication and coordinated installation, we're enhancing this landmark project's efficiency and longevity. Proud to build a safer NYC—one stair at a time.
